Week 1 — Lesson #2
The next project I’ll be working on this weekend is creating the lesson plan for a sand pendulum. This is a pretty cool project because it will allow students to do something creative and original all while learning about how pendulums work. I’m afraid that this activity will be a little messy, so when I do it, I’ll make sure to do it inside a container where I can easily collect the sand. There aren’t many things needed to create this project. The project is 10 steps long and there are some tweak and modifications that can be done. Now to go find some sand. . . shouldn’t be a problem as my local playground is full of it!
As shown yesterday, I’ll be doing a project a week for 25 weeks. I’m just going in sequential order and I’ll be working on the sand pendulum. Many months ago I tried doing the spring car, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how to make it work. I’ll circle back to that project as I’m sure once I figure it out, others will benefit from the instructions.
On the personal front today, I was still on baby duty so my ability to work on my side hustle has been vastly reduced. Additionally, I started work again so I’ve been having to deal with that. I did manage to read a chapter of each of the 4 books I’m reading so let’s talk a little about that.
1st, I start off the day by reading a daily devotional. I’ve never been able to read the Bible in its entirety, so a devotional allows me to spend some time in the morning meditating, praying, and thinking.
2nd, I’m reading Bob Iger’s newest book. The chapter today was very powerful because it talked about doing whatever it takes to make sure you deliver on the work that is assigned to you. This got me thinking about my current job and a message that my manager shared with me a few weeks ago. If you haven’t read A Message to Garcia (https://courses.csail.mit.edu/6.803/pdf/hubbard1899.pdf) I recommend you read it. I read a few weeks ago and it really changed my perspective on how I approach my work and take orders from my leadership team. Bob talks about doing basically the same thing outlined in the Message to Garcia. Long story short, I recommend you go read that entire PDF. It’s a very powerful message and so far the people I know that have applied the message of the text have really excelled at their careers.
3rd, I’m reading the Infinite Game. Wow, this book is really good but I feel like I have to read the Growth Mindset by Carol Dweck for it to make more sense. The chapter I read today was mostly laying out the premise of the book which is essentially our careers are an infinite game (no defined rules, start, end, players), people just come in and out. But the people playing in this infinite game have a finite mentality which means that they think they can win at a game that essentially has no end. I’m excited to see where the book goes, but so far I’m really interested.
Lastly, I lied a little. I’m 1 chapter away from finishing my goal for today. I’m trying to read Tiny Habits which I recently picked up at a trip to Costco. The book caught my attention and I’m excited to get started reading it. I was going to read it first, but felt I needed to get this post out to you all before I settled down for the night with the book.
Back to my Plan A stuff. . . I’ll be building the project tomorrow and recording the instruction/build guide. On Sunday, I’ll edit and publish the video
As always, thanks for reading along. Look forward to sharing yet another video with you guys!
