27 Part Journey to Starting a Side Hustle — Day Twenty-Seven
Well, this is it. The final part of my 27 day journey. I made it all the way to the end and I posted my first video. Here’s the published video: https://youtu.be/RwmnVUfjoXI
Here are a couple of things I’ve learned. I don’t want to deal with the whole COPPA crisis that is happening on the internet so, going forward, my all my content will be geared towards the 13 and up age group. This only applies to the videos I’ll be making, but in general, I should be in the clear since my videos are going to be generic and mostly for parents and educators. The lesson plans are also mainly for parents and educators so I shouldn’t have any problems there either. I’ll still be able to create “content” for the younger audience, but it wont be labeled or marketed towards them. Instead, I’ll put an emphasis for parents of a second grader or second grade teachers. One part I will have to change however, is including my son in the videos. Since part of the rules are the children can’t be in the videos, I’ll be adjusting how I record the videos so that I don’t violate any laws.
Next, I’m still working on my lesson plan and plan to have that finished before the end of 2019. . . I know there is only one day left in 2019 as of this writing. My goal for 2020 is as follows:
- Focus on making 12 curriculum packages. During my research over the last week, the curriculum packages I saw online were mostly a collection of similarly themed lesson plans that are rolled up into an objective of some kind. So, 12 packages, 12 months.
- For each of the 12 packages, I plan on having 4 lesson plans. These lesson plans will be teachable projects that students can partake in. Again, setting this up to be as simple as possible, 4 lesson plans = 1 each week.
- Finally, I’ll be working on my website where I do have much bigger plans. I plan on building a full fledged school where people can come and learn about STEAM and how to teach STEAM in their classes.
One other note as I conclude my 27 day journey. I’ve really enjoyed posting content up every day. It’s been very encouraging to see people engage with me both online and in person about my goals. I plan on continuing to post daily and have an overarching goal of posting 366 blog posts in 2020. One thing I do plan on doing differently though, is to post about all of my projects, not just the apetech university. When I created apetech, it was supposed to be a brand that could be about many different things. For the better part of 2019, I recorded myself (and streamed) going through the freecodecamp.org courses. I plan on continuing this trend in 2020 and finishing all of freecodecamp’s offerings. I plan on recording everything and posting on youtube under the apetech brand. I also plan on working on all kinds of tech projects that will be both for professional and personal gains. For example, I’ve been using a lot of powershell at work and plan on focusing more energy on learning as much as I can about powershell. For personal, I’ve had this idea with one of my cousins of creating content around voice. I plan on starting that up in 2020 as well.
The possibilities are endless for me at this point. What I’ve learned from this 27 day journey is that I need to focus on one thing at a time so that I make noticeable traction on my goals. One of the things that I discovered was that I have A LOT of distractions during the day time. When I’m at work, I have to obviously work and focus on only that. When I’m at home, I have a lot of “chores” and family matters to attend. Waking up at 5 AM every day is okay, but in the coming weeks, I have to figure out how to be the most productive during that two hour window I have every day.

I know I didn’t exactly finish the project I set forth to do, but for the first time in 7 years, I created something with the purpose of achieving my dreams. I know the progress was limited, but it’s a starting point. I’m going to take tomorrow to reflect on everything I wrote down and create a strategy to move forward. 2020 will be the year I become financially independent.
